New Chinese catchphrase “Do Sex to Me” sure to catch on

This Cold Open was wonderfully timed as Obama’s recent trip to China certainly seemed like a “Hey, we’re good for the money. We swear.” assurance. The heavy sarcasm helped sell the entire sketch and you could just picture a couple of writers coming up with the dialogue while watching the actual press conference. Add the sarcasm with Will Forte’s continually turning his ass toward Fred Armisen’s Obama and you have the makings of a classic SNL political sketch. The icing on the cake was Nasim Pedrad screaming “Do sex to me” after each of Forte’s angry blow ups. Normally, I would be bummed they didn’t just curse and bleep it out (this usually comes across better) but I imagine that’s what Hu Jintao really wanted to say during the real press conference anyway.

Some skits get funny after repeat viewings. Example: Gilly

Kristen Wiig continues to be one of the best on SNL mostly because she doesn’t stare at cue cards all night but also because she doesn’t latch onto one character idea and beat it into the ground. “Gilly” was a fresh idea that didn’t make me laugh much at first but after repeat viewings, is starting to grow on me….”Sorry” :)
And that new guy (Bobby Moynihan) is such a dead ringer for a young Artie Lange. I’m just gonna pretend he is so maybe I’ll laugh more.

Oh and Will Forte is brilliant. That is all.
:)

Pepsi goes for the MacGuyver fan who loves Saturday Night Live and is thirsty demographic

So Pepsi decided to try and be creative with their “Pepsuber” Super Bowl ads and use a (unless I’m delusional) barely popular SNL skit that is a take off on the old MacGuyver series.
Wow, brilliant marketing plan Pepsi. Using a double inside pop culture reference to seem “hip.” So basically you narrowed down your demographic to:

  • People who watched MacGuyver, a show that was mildly popular in the 80s
  • People who watch Saturday Night Live and stay up past Weekend Update and have actually seen the MacGruber parodies
  • People who actually laughed at said parodies

So congratulations Pepsi, 3 people enjoyed those commercials. EPIC WIN!
