Angry Thanksgiving sketch was better the first time around. When Will Ferrell “Drove a Dodge Stratus!”

So, I’m breaking with the site rule of “only the funny” videos from SNL and had to post about the “Angry Thanksgiving” sketch. This thing was horrid. I mean, it’s so bad, I can’t even find a clip of it online. Really. Google it. Go ahead, I’ll wait…..See! Nothing!

Here’s a quick description:

Angry Thanksgiving Dinner

Five of the cast members sit at Thanksgiving dinner and seem incredibly mad and frustrated by one another. Everytime it dissolves into anarchy Judith (Kristen Wiig) stands up and throws her napkin around and her family yells, “Sit down Judith! Sit down!” It ends with them finding peace singing Wilson Phillips “Hold On” together before falling into disagreement once again.

So yah, not funny at all. However, it DID remind me of one of the best Will Ferrell lines in a sketch. It’s not one of his most famous characters or even a well known catchphrase (i.e. “The perfect cheer!”) but it is incredibly enjoyable none-the-less. During a family dinner, that many of us have probably had, the whole clan is yelling when Ferrell trumps everyone with the phrase “I Drive a Dodge Stratus!!!”

It’s hilariously odd and completely relatable all at once. Check it out:

Dogs eat garbage. It’s funny because it’s true!

“Mostly Garabage” is one of the better SNL commercials in recent memory. And with the “current economic conditions”, it really hits home. Don’t get me wrong, I like dogs, but this definitely falls into the “Funny because it’s true” category. The ending, when Jason Sudeikis says “…because he’s a dog”, reminded me of one of my all time favorite SNL commercial quotes from Will Ferrell’s classic “Dissing Your Dog”:

Oh right Margaret, you wanted Prime Rib. Here’s the deal. The Palm wasn’t taking reservations and we don’t want to try Morton’s because I understand they have a new chef. So for now, let’s just go with the Alpo, ok. I know it’s not your first choice, but keep in mind….[whispers]YOU’RE A F*%$ING DOG!!!

Lonely Island Boys hit new low, steal from former SNL cast member

Posted by Turd Ferguson | Posted in Digital Short | Posted on 12-03-2009

All I hear about lately is how funny “I’m on a boat” is and that the Lonely Island Boys have done it again. Now granted, I can’t wait for Incredibad (their new album) to come out, but the only thing that impressed my about “I’m on a boat” was the production values (and how nicely they used T-pain :)

But I’d like to argue for a different “boat” parody that ironically involved a former SNL cast member. I speak of “Boats n Hoes”. The hard core music video from Brennan (Will Ferrell) and Dale (John C. Reily) of Prestige International. While it only appeared briefly in “Step Brothers”, the lyrics alone blow “I’m on a boat” out of the water (pun intended). Granted, there is no T-Pain or killer production values, but they were first and arguably still the best. In the words of the great Levar Burton (Reading Rainbow), “But don’t take my word for it…”
