So, I’m breaking with the site rule of “only the funny” videos from SNL and had to post about the “Angry Thanksgiving” sketch. This thing was horrid. I mean, it’s so bad, I can’t even find a clip of it online. Really. Google it. Go ahead, I’ll wait…..See! Nothing!
Here’s a quick description:
Angry Thanksgiving Dinner
Five of the cast members sit at Thanksgiving dinner and seem incredibly mad and frustrated by one another. Everytime it dissolves into anarchy Judith (Kristen Wiig) stands up and throws her napkin around and her family yells, “Sit down Judith! Sit down!” It ends with them finding peace singing Wilson Phillips “Hold On” together before falling into disagreement once again.
So yah, not funny at all. However, it DID remind me of one of the best Will Ferrell lines in a sketch. It’s not one of his most famous characters or even a well known catchphrase (i.e. “The perfect cheer!”) but it is incredibly enjoyable none-the-less. During a family dinner, that many of us have probably had, the whole clan is yelling when Ferrell trumps everyone with the phrase “I Drive a Dodge Stratus!!!”
It’s hilariously odd and completely relatable all at once. Check it out:

Seriously. Samberg does it better than half of the “legitimate” rappers out there. Production values, showmanship, and the over-produced signing isn’t bad either. This Worlds Collide: Featuring Reba McEntire video is another (see I’m On A Boat) in his continuing series of fantastic/hilarious rap videos (with some help from the Lonely Island Boys, I’m sure).
Plus, this features something that always makes me laugh in an SNL sketch. Bleeped curse words. Don’t ask me why, but it always gets me.
“Dropped her denim skirt and said hop to it!”…..’nuff said.

This Cold Open was wonderfully timed as Obama’s recent trip to China certainly seemed like a “Hey, we’re good for the money. We swear.” assurance. The heavy sarcasm helped sell the entire sketch and you could just picture a couple of writers coming up with the dialogue while watching the actual press conference. Add the sarcasm with Will Forte’s continually turning his ass toward Fred Armisen’s Obama and you have the makings of a classic SNL political sketch. The icing on the cake was Nasim Pedrad screaming “Do sex to me” after each of Forte’s angry blow ups. Normally, I would be bummed they didn’t just curse and bleep it out (this usually comes across better) but I imagine that’s what Hu Jintao really wanted to say during the real press conference anyway.
